Esports have grown massively in the past decade. Coverage, the amount of players, and tournaments with massive prize pools have all been on the rise. It has even transformed from a simple pastime to a lucrative career, with top players raking in millions of dollars.
As the billion dollar market of Esports has grown around the world, it also has been growing in Santa Monica as well. Recently, Red Bull Team Brawl: Hearthstones announced that they will be back for a second season in 2017 at their eSports studio in Santa Monica. They will be hosting three combative 3v3 events in their Red Bull eSports this year. The first of these events took place on April 15th, the others will be on August 5 and December 15.
Additionally, just down the street from Santa Monica is Riot Games’ Headquarters. This is where League of Legends, one of the biggest eSports games in the world, is played.
As more eSports tournaments are being introduced in Santa Monica, more gamers are becoming attracted to the area, only growing the industry further.
